Luis Arturo Cornejo Pérez

Principal Clarinet of the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico

He was born in Mexico in 1992 and began his musical studies at the age of 5 years old, under the guidance of his father, Arturo Cornejo Vargas, also clarinetist. Later, he has completed his studies in Clarinet at the National Conservatory of Music of Mexico (CNM), under the tutelage of the teachers Marino Calva Calva and Saúl Sánchez Zea.

He has taken master classes with the teachers: Philippe Cuper, Paul Meyer, Jérome Comte, Alain Damiens, Yehuda Gilad, Antonio Saiote, Pascual Martinez, among others.

As a member of the Mexico ́s Clarinet Choir he has attended the ClarinetFest 2013 (Assisi, Italy), ClarinetFest 2015 (Madrid, Spain), ClarinetFest 2022 (Reno, NV, USA), and ClarinetFest 2023 (Denver, CO, USA).

He was member of the Carlos Chavez School Orchestra (OECCH); in the internal competition for soloists he was winner and he played as a soloist with the OECCH.

Winner of the INBA ́s “Professional Schools Soloists Competition”, performing as a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico (OSN) in April 2014.

With the “Yag Lerhul Clarinet Quartet” he won the prize for the “Best interpretation of a Latin- American musical work” in the “10th National Chamber Music Competition” of the Mexico ́s Superior School of Music.

First place winner of the “National Clarinet Competition 2014” held at the Faculty of Music of the UNAM, Mexico. Likewise, winner of the first place of the “1st National Clarinet Competition”, held at the Mexico ́s National Conservatory of Music in March 2016.

He was Principal Clarinet of the UNAM ́s Eduardo Mata University Youth Orchestra (OJUEM), group with which he has performed in the most important concert halls in Mexico and in Italy, in a series of national and international tours. As well, he was winner of the internal competition for soloists and he played as a soloist with the OJUEM.

He was Clarinet Principal Associate of the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (OFJ), group with which he performed in important tours in Mexico and the United States of America.

In June 2022, he was winner of the second prize in the “4th Louis Cahuzac International Clarinet Competition”, held in Versailles, France.

Currently, he works professionally as Principal Clarinet of the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico while hi ́s invited by different clarinet festivals in Mexico and abroad to give master classes, concerts and as a jury.

Luis Arturo plays with Buffet Crampon Festival Clarinets and Vandoren mouthpieces.
