Kim Ellis

Professor of Clarinet at Lamar University

Kim S. Ellis is a native of Rockford, Illinois, and is an artist/clinician for Buffet Crampon Clarinets and D’Addario and Company. She has completed two recordings with clarinetist Richard Stoltzman and PARMA and MMC Recordings. She will soon complete her third recording project with PARMA Recordings. She has been asked to record Sung Yong Cheong work « Monolog » for a PBS program. In addition, she is working on a CD with Centaur Records, Inc. and PARMA Recordings. The Centaur recording will feature Italian composers for clarinet and piano.

Dr. Ellis is an active performer and clinician at conventions and clinics throughout the United States, including the Texas Music Educators Association, International Clarinet Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Festival of Texas Composers, Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium, College Music Society-South Chapter, Sarasota Music Festival and the University of New Hampshire Chamber Music Festival. She has also performed with the C.D. Duo, Symphony of Southeast Texas Symphony, Woodlands Symphony, Opera Columbus, Columbus Light Opera, Coventry Trio, and Keith Brion’s New Sousa Band.

While at the University, Dr. Ellis has received honors including the Lamar University Teaching Merit and Outstanding Teacher Awards. She has premiered works by Thomas McKinley, Dr. Harry Bulow, Dr. Frank Felice. Most recently, she has a new added position at the Lamar University, Special Assistant to the Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication.

Dr. Ellis holds degrees from Illinois Wesleyan University, Bowling Green State University and The Ohio State University. She has studied with David Peck (Houston Symphony), Jim Pyne (OSU), John Mohler (UM), Edward Marks (BGSU), John Mc Grosso (IWU) and Ken Stein. Summer music studies include with Stanley Hasty, Charles Neidich, and Ron de Kant.
