Paula Corley is the new Educational Advisor for Buffet Crampon US. Paula has 33 years of teaching experience at all levels, from middle school through college, most recently serving as clarinet instructor at Texas Lutheran University. Paula launched “ClariNetworks,” in 2018, an annual workshop for clarinetists and band directors and served as chamber music judge for Music for All’s National Chamber Music Festival. She also served as Pedagogy Chair for the International Clarinet Association 2018-20. Many clarinetists know Paula as the “mayor” of Clarinet City, an instructional website for students of all ages and stages of clarinet playing.
Originally from Mississippi, Paula grew up without access to clarinet lessons, sparking a lifelong interest in the development of research-informed materials for beginning and intermediate players. She is a graduate of Mississippi State University (BME) where she was named Alumnus of the Year for Music in 2012-13 and Southern Methodist University (MM) where she worked with the legendary Howard Dunn. Paula taught in Plano, Texas for many years before moving to Asheville, NC where she served as principal clarinet in the Asheville Lyric Opera and instructor of clarinet at Mars Hill University (NC). Paula has been recognized as a performing artist/clinician for Buffet Crampon since 2002 and Vandoren since 2006.
Paula has performed and presented at music conferences throughout the US since 1998 and authored two clarinet instruction books: So You Want to Play the Clarinet and The Break (Southern/Hal Leonard). She has also contributed articles to The Clarinet, Vandoren WAVE, The Texas Bandmasters Review, and The Instrumentalist. Recently Paula completed a new series of arrangements for clarinet and piano, to be released in 2022 by Southern Music. She also has collaborated with composers Michael Markowski and Clifton Jones for clarinet feature pieces.
