Laroy Borchert

Principal Clarinet, Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra

Dr. Laroy Borchert is Principal Clarinet in the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra, El Paso Opera, Bruce Nehring Consort Orchestra, and Second/Eb clarinetist with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra.

He has performed as a soloist with the Chamber Players de Las Cruces, El Paso Pro Musica, Sinfonia Clasica (Ciudad Juarez), at the 1995 and 1997 conventions of theInternational Clarinet Association, and was the featured clarinet soloist on a tour of Germany in 1999.

He has premiered works in New Mexico, Arizona, Florida, and Puebla, Mexico.

He has also performed as a member of the El Paso Pro Musica, American Wind Symphony Orchestra, Waco Symphony Orchestra, and at the Blossom Music Festival at Kent State University where .

He has presented clinics and master classes internationally in Turkey, Germany, Mexico, and in Colombia.

He is a Buffet Crampon clarinet Artist/Clinician and has been active as a soloist, clinician, and/or adjudicator in New Mexico, Texas, Florida, Georgia, Montana, and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

He is also active as a scholar writing for music journals and presenting papers at humanities and music theory conventions.Currently, he is Professor of Clarinet at New Mexico State University.

He received his Doctorate of Music in Clarinet Performance from The Florida State University in Tallahasse where he studied with Fred Ormand and Frank Kowalsky.

He also holds degrees from Baylor University in Waco, TX and Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and did additional study at the University of North Texas. Prior to his graduate studies, he was the Director of Bands in the Greenbush, MN public school district.
