Andrius BERNOTAITIS

Principal Clarinet in Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra and as Principal Clarinetist with the Kaunas State Musical Theatre, professor at Vytautas Magnus University Music Academy in Kaunas

Andrius Bernotaitis is one of the leading Baltic clarinetists of his generation. Born in Lithuania he started his clarinet studies at Juozas Naujalis Music Gymnasium at the age of 10.

After finishing the high school, he was accepted into the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre to study with professor Algirdas Budrys. While a student in Vilnius, Mr. Bernotaitis was admitted into the Royal College of Music in Stockholm under the Erasmus student exchange program to study with the late Principal Clarinetist of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Kjell-Inge Stevensson. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, Andrius was invited to study with professor Håkan Rosengren at California State University, where he graduated in 2009.

In 2008 he was selected as Principal Clarinetist for the International Festival- Institute at Round Top. His solo appearances include Los Angeles Debut Orchestra, Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra, St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra, California State University Symphony Orchestra and Lithuanian Music Academy Symphony Orchestra.

Andrius is a laureate of many international competitions in Eastern Europe and the US. Andrius Bernotaitis presently holds the position as Principal Clarinet in Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra and as Principal Clarinetist with the Kaunas State Musical Theatre. He also holds a teaching position at Vytautas Magnus University Music Academy in Kaunas, Lithuania, as well as in Juozas Naujalis Music Gymnasium. From 2007-2009 Mr. Bernotaitis was the Principal Clarinetist of the Los Angeles Debut Orchestra.

Andrius can be heard on the most recent recordings with Kaunas Symphony Orchestra of G. Verdi’s opera “Simon Boccanegra” for Delos Records (together with the Metropolitan Opera soloists Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Barbara Frittoli, Stefano Secco), as well as on the recordings with one of the most famous basses Ildar Abrazakov („Russian Arias for Bass“) and GRAMMY–nominated Lawrence Brownlee‘s „Virtuoso Rossini Arias“. Andrius Bernotaitis has toured with Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra in Norway, Finland, Switzerland, Germany, Latvia, Estonia, Belarus.
