Shannon Orme

Bass Clarinet, Detroit Symphony Orchestra

Shannon Orme, a native of Frederick, MD, joined the clarinet section of Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 2007. A former student of Richard Hawkins, Lawrie Bloom and Yehuda Gilad, she received degrees from Interlochen Arts Academy, Northwestern University ( B.Mus) and University of Southern California (M.Mus).Before coming to Detroit, Ms. Orme held the position of Co-Principal Clarinet with the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra in Osaka Japan, where she was 2006 HPAC Concerto Competition Winner and recorded the Mozart Concerto released by AVEX Records. She has toured with orchestras throughout North America, Europe and Asia under the baton of Daniel Barenboim and Helmuth Rilling.An avid supporter of new music, Ms. Orme performed with the Lucerne Festival Academy for two seasons under Pierre Boulez and with the 2007 Aspen Contemporary Ensemble under Sydney Hodkinson. She appears regularly in the Detroit area with New Music Detroit and Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings.Ms. Orme is a dedicated educator. She currently teaches at Eastern Michigan University and conducts clinics and master classes throughout the country.
