Cecilia Kang

Assistant Professor of Clarinet - Louisiana State University

Clarinetist Cecilia Kang enjoys a multifaceted career as a concert clarinetist, educator and an adjudicator. Top prize winner of the Canadian Music Competition and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Standard Life Competition, she is a recipient of numerous awards and grants from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Washington DC, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Metropolitan Arts Council, the Alliance for Canadian New Music Projects, the Kingsway Foundation, and the Hendrickson Foundation.

In addition to performing at International ClarinetFest, Thy Chamber Music Festival (Denmark), Grumo Music Festival (Italy), Castleton Music Festival (USA), Piccolo Spoleto Festival (USA), Bay View Music Festival (USA), Collingwood Music Festival (Canada), International Clarinet & Saxophone Festival (China), Seoul Arts Center (South Korea) and Interflow Music Festival (Hong Kong), she has given masterclasses and lectures at the Midwest Clinic, the University of Toronto (Canada), San Francisco Conservatory of Music (USA), Beijing Central Conservatory of Music (China), Shanghai Conservatory of Music (China), Sai Wan Ho Civic Center (Hong Kong), National Taiwan University of Arts (Taiwan), Yonsei University (South Korea), Thailand International Clarinet Academy (Thailand), Conservatorio di Musica “G.Verdi” di Milano (Italy) and many other universities and conservatories around the world. As an adjudicator, she has served on judging panels for the International Clarinet Association, the Music Teachers National Association, the College Music Society, the Interflow Band Festival of Hong Kong and the Vandoren Emerging Artist Competition. Her work has been featured in numerous publications including the Nineteenth-Century Music Review, the GIA Publications, the Soundset Recordings and the Eumakchunchu Magazine.

Cecilia Kang earned her degrees from the University of Michigan, the University of Southern California, and the University of Toronto. She has also participated in professional development residencies at Banff Centre for the Arts (Canada), International Ensemble and Composers Academy for Contemporary Music (Austria) and Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt (Germany). Her teachers have included Yehuda Gilad, Daniel Gilbert, Joseph Orlowski, Joaquin Valdepenas, Avrahm Galper and Zeng Ming Liao.
